Anastasia, or as her friends call her, ‘Tas’, is a 15-year-old swimmer and Paralympian medalist. Between the ages of 5 and 15, Tas suffered progressive vision loss that has left her almost completely blind. In 2018 after losing her vision, Tas stopped swimming. However, that didn’t last long. Her perseverance and drive were far stronger than her vision loss.
Today, Tas strives to be a role model for the visually impaired. After hearing her story, NBC’s “George to the Rescue” wanted to help make her home a safer, more functional place for her to live. George to the Rescue transformed the family’s space in many ways, knowing that renovations and solutions like window film can change lives.
About the Project
George Oliphant of George to the Rescue has one goal in mind: to rescue families who are in need of home renovations. After hearing Tas’ story, he knew that there were many ways he could improve their home. Some features of the home proved to be both unsafe and uncomfortable for Tas. For instance, a hazardous bathroom created obstacles in her daily life. Additionally, the design and orientation of the home allowed excessive sunlight and glare to enter the space, creating discomfort for Tas. Tas explained that even dim lighting bothers her eyes the way bright light might bother someone with full sight. That’s when George called New York Window Film.
Window Film to the Rescue
While many people desire a naturally lit home, Tas’ light sensitivity issues due to excessive bright light through the windows became a daily obstacle within her own home. To increase her comfort level and mitigate glare, George utilized window film from New York Window Film. 3M Sun Control Window Film can be used to control bothersome glare without eliminating natural light entirely. Window film proved to be an optimal solution for Tas’ home, allowing her to continue to live comfortably.
