Can Window Film Be Removed?

Yes, window film can be removed, and proper removal will leave your glass looking just as it did prior to application. The film is designed and manufactured to specifications that guarantee that it will not peel off from your glass. However, if desired, window film can be removed with large razor blades and a fair amount of elbow grease. Window film will leave your glass unblemished after its proper removal.

When applied by a professional installer, window film can last for about 15 years before needing to be removed. The effective lifespan will vary by the type of film, type of glass, window construction, orientation of glass, and in which part of the world it is being used. There are documented cases of film lasting 20-25 years or more in some instances.

In addition to the longevity you’ll enjoy with a professional film installation, another reason to feel confident in your investment in window film is the manufacturer warranty. Window film manufacturers like 3M Company and Eastman Chemical stand behind their products with competitive manufacturer warranties that cover delamination, bubbling, blistering, cracking, peeling, and discoloration, among other defects.

The warranty period depends on which film you choose. VISTA/LLUMAR is a quality window film manufactured by Eastman Chemical for residential and commercial use. It is warrantied for a minimum of 10 years, and in residential settings, for the lifetime of that glass. 3M films are also premium quality and warrantied, with most commercial films covered for 10-15 years and most residential films covered by a limited lifetime warranty.

With a professional installation by a certified installer and the backing of a manufacturer warranty, you can expect to enjoy the benefits of your window film for many years to come. Give us a call to speak to one of our expert team members today.
